TIME SCALE is a three year research and innovation project (2015 - 2018), developing next-generation technology and concepts for life science research in space, with applications also for the land-based greenhouse industry. The project is funded by Horizon 2020, the EU framework program for research and innovation, through topic Compet-07-2014, Space Exploration - Life support.

- Our hardware delivery has been finished and handed over to the italians, Project Manager Bjarte G. B. Solheim explains.

In Modena, Italy this hardware made by us, will be integrated into the rest of the mechanical structures. Next Week this structure will be transported back to Norway and Trondheim. Here the scientists at CIRiS will do their testing with plants. The new hardware will permit plants to grow in a closed loop liquid nutrient solution. The advanced plant health monitoring system will work towards ensuring  optimal growth using e.g. ion-specific sensors permitting exact dosing of needed nutrients based on the actual uptake of nutrients in the plants.
