Aquaspace - How to make more food from aquaculture in a sustainable way although providing increased space.

The EU Horizon 2020 project AquaSpace aimed at providing increased space for aquaculture to allow increased production, by identifying key constrains experienced by aquaculture development in a wide range of contexts and aquaculture types, taking into account all relevant factors and advised by a Reference User group. The central goal of the AquaSpace project was to provide increased space of high water quality for aquaculture by adopting the Ecosystem Approach Aquaculture (EAA) and Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and so to deliver food security and increased employment opportunities through economic growth.
AquaSpace had four key Work Packages, in which CMR was mainly involved in the Work Package of “Develop and deliver tailored tools”. Based upon requests from relevant case studies, the AkvaVis system will be appropriately adapted, extended, and expanded in order to provide an appropriate tool for MSP in other culture areas.
Results of AquaSpace
AkvaVis has demonstrated its usefulness in planning place for aquaculture in four case studies located in France, Northern Ireland and China:
