Arctic Ice Edge Voyage

A new project will provide environmental data from ice edge zone in the Arctic.

Arctic Ice Edge Voyage

CMR is part of a recently granted RFF project using sensor equipped Sailbuoys for measurements at the ice edge zone in the Arctic. This zone represent a unique marine ecosystem sensitive to human-induced changes such as acidification by increased CO2 emissions. One Sailbuoy will be equipped with sensors for physical and chemical measurements at the surface while the other with an echosounder for observations in the water column.

The project is important in demonstrating the Sailbuoy as a suitable platform for research in the Arctic and in increaseing our understanding of physical and chemical processes in the ice edge zone and their effects on biological production. Aanderaa Data Instruments leads the project with Nansensenteret, Offshore Sensing AS and CMR as partners.
